Privacy Policy for AED-Rclone

Last Updated: May 26, 2025

This Privacy Policy describes how AED-Rclone ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our application to interact with your Google Drive. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a clear understanding of how your information is handled.

This policy specifically covers our use of the following Google OAuth scopes:

  • https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.metadata.readonly

By authorizing AED-Rclone to access your Google Drive with these scopes, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Access and How We Use It

AED-Rclone is designed to provide you with tools to manage your Google Drive files. Our access to your Google Drive data is strictly limited to what is necessary to perform the functionalities of the application, based on the permissions you grant.

Here’s how we use the specific Google OAuth scopes you authorize:

  1. https://www.googleapis.com/auth/docs (View and manage your Google Docs documents)

    • What it allows: This scope permits AED-Rclone to access, create, modify, and delete your Google Docs files specifically. This includes the content of the documents, their titles, and other associated metadata.
    • How we use it: AED-Rclone uses this permission to enable features such as opening, editing, saving, organizing, and backing up your Google Docs documents through our application interface.
  2. https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive (See, edit, create, and delete all of your Google Drive files)

    • What it allows: This is a comprehensive scope that grants AED-Rclone broad access to your Google Drive. This includes the ability to view, upload, download, modify, organize (move files and folders), and delete any files and folders stored in your Google Drive. It also allows access to file metadata (like titles, descriptions, and sharing permissions).
    • How we use it: This permission is fundamental to the core functionality of AED-Rclone, which is to provide a comprehensive file management solution for your Google Drive. This allows you to perform a wide range of operations on your files and folders directly through our application, such as backups, synchronization, and bulk operations.
  3. https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.metadata.readonly (View metadata for files in your Google Drive)

    • What it allows: This scope permits AED-Rclone to view metadata about your Google Drive files and folders. This includes information like file names, types, sizes, creation and modification dates, and folder structures. Importantly, this scope does not allow AED-Rclone to read the content of your files or make any changes to your files or their metadata.
    • How we use it: AED-Rclone uses this permission to display your file and folder listings, provide information about your files (like size and modification date), and help you navigate your Drive contents without needing to download the actual file content unless explicitly requested by you (which would then be covered by the ./auth/drive scope if granted). This allows for a lighter-weight Browse experience when full file access is not immediately needed.

Important Note on Data Access:

  • AED-Rclone only accesses your Google Drive data based on the actions you initiate within the application.
  • We do not access your files or data for any purposes other than providing and improving the explicit functionalities of AED-Rclone.
  • We strive to use the minimum necessary permissions to deliver our services.

Data Storage and Security

AED-Rclone itself does not store your Google Drive files or a copy of your Google Drive data on its own servers as a primary function. The application acts as a client to interact with your Google Drive account directly.

  • Authentication Tokens: To maintain access to your Google Drive as authorized by you, AED-Rclone securely stores authentication tokens (OAuth tokens) provided by Google. These tokens are stored encrypted on your local device or a secure server environment managed by us, protected by industry-standard security measures to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Cached Data: For performance and user experience improvement, AED-Rclone may temporarily cache some metadata or file information locally on your device. This cached data can be cleared by you.
  • Data Transmission: All data transmitted between AED-Rclone and Google Drive servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS (Transport Layer Security).

We implement reasonable and appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect the authentication tokens and any temporarily cached data from loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. However, please note that no internet transmission or electronic storage method is 100% secure.

Data Sharing

AED-Rclone does not share your Google Drive files or personal information accessed via the Google Drive API with any third parties, except in the following limited circumstances:

  • With your explicit consent: If we were to integrate a new feature that requires sharing data with another service, we would explicitly ask for your permission.
  • For legal reasons: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court or a government agency). This includes meeting national security or law enforcement requirements.
  • Service Providers: We may employ third-party companies and individuals to facilitate our Service ("Service Providers"), to provide the Service on our behalf, to perform Service-related services, or to assist us in analyzing how our Service is used. These third parties have access to your Personal Information only to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose. (Please specify if this is the case. If AED-Rclone uses no external service providers that would handle this data, state that clearly). For the purpose of this sample, we will assume no such third-party service providers handle this specific Google Drive data.

We do not sell your personal information or Google Drive data.

User Rights and Data Control

You have control over the data AED-Rclone accesses:

  • Revoking Access: You can revoke AED-Rclone's access to your Google Drive at any time through your Google Account security settings page (usually found at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions). Revoking access will prevent AED-Rclone from accessing your Google Drive data further. Any stored authentication tokens for your account will become invalid.
  • Deleting Cached Data: You can typically clear any locally cached data through the application's settings or by clearing the application's data on your device.
  • Accessing and Modifying Your Data: AED-Rclone allows you to access and modify your Google Drive data as permitted by the granted scopes. The primary copy of your data resides in your Google Drive, which you can access and manage directly through Google Drive interfaces as well.

Children's Privacy

AED-Rclone is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13 (or the relevant age of consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child without verification of parental consent, we will take steps to remove that information.

We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this Privacy Policy. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
